Coconut eggnog
Cream of coconut, three kinds of milk, Puerto Rican rum and cinnamon, blended and chilled. Given away in bottles all December.
Coquito season starts around Thanksgiving. Everyone has a recipe, everyone thinks theirs is the best, and the bottles go to neighbors, teachers and anyone who stops by.
This is the eggless version most families make today. Some still make it with yolks, the older way.
De dónde viene:Where it comes from: Coconut from the Caribbean coast, rum from the sugar plantations, cinnamon and nutmeg from the Spanish spice trade.
